॥ अथ ३.१७२ ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच ।
३.१७२.४
यथान्यायं महातेजाः शौचं परममास्थितः ।
गिरिकूबरं पादपाङ्गं शुभवेणु त्रिवेणुकम् ।
पार्थिवं रथमास्थाय शोभमानो धनंजयः ॥
M N Dutt (And) duly observing the purificatory rites, the highly-energetic Dhananjaya, seated on the earth as (his) car, having the mountain for its pole, the base of the mountain for its axle and the cluster of beautiful bamboo trees for its socket pole and clad in that celestials mail of great splendour, looked (highly) beautiful.

शोशुभ्यमानः कौन्तेय आनुपूर्व्यान्महाभुजः ।
अस्त्राणि तानि दिव्यानि दर्शनायोपचक्रमे ॥
M N Dutt (And)o son of Kunti, the handsome (Dhananjaya) of mighty arms, holding (in his hand) the bow Gandiva, together with the conch presented to him by the celestials, was about to exhibit in due order those celestials weapons. (But) As he commenced to display those heavenly weapons,

ततः पितामहश्चैव लोकपालाश्च सर्वशः ।
भगवांश्च महादेवः सगणोऽभ्याययौ तदा ॥
M N Dutt Then Pitamaha (Brahma), all the Lokapalas (the guardians of the ten cardinal points), the divine Mahadeva, together with all their followers, made their appearance (at that spot).
३.१७२.१९
अधिष्ठाने न वानार्तः प्रयुञ्जीत कदाचन ।
प्रयोगे सुमहान्दोषो ह्यस्त्राणां कुरुनन्दन ॥
M N Dutt And unless sore afflicted, one should not discharge these even if there is an object (present). O descendant of the Kurus, it will result in a terrible disaster, if these weapons are (causclessly) discharged.
३.१७२.२३
निवार्याथ ततः पार्थं सर्वे देवा यथागतम् ।
जग्मुरन्ये च ये तत्र समाजग्मुर्नरर्षभ ॥
M N Dutt O the most exalted of mortals, having prevented Arjuna (from hurling these weapons), all the celestials and all other beings who had come there went to their respective abodes.
