॥ अथ एकोनविंशः सर्गः ॥
१९.१
अपमन्युस्ततो वाक्यं पौलस्त्यो राममुक्तवान् ।
अशोच्योऽपि व्रजन्नस्तं सनाभिर्दुनुयान्न किम् ॥
Karandikar Thereafter Vibhisana, whose grief had subsided, addressed Rama (these) words : Might a couterine brother, though not worth lamenting, not cause grief, (while) reaching his end ?
१९.१६
अज्ञावन्नोत्सहेथास्त्वं धेया धीरत्वमच्युतम् ।
स्थेयाः कार्येषु बन्धूनां हेयाः शोकोद्भवं तमः ॥
Karandikar "Why do you, likene ignorant person, not get ready: pick up excellent courage ; may you abide by (your) duty to (your) kinsmen and abandon the bewilderment (delusion) arising from grief.
१९.१८
यच्च यत्र भवांस्तिष्ठेत्तत्राऽन्यो रावणस्य न ।
यच्च यत्र भवान्सीदेन्महद्भिस्तद्विगर्हितम् ॥
Karandikar None else of Ravana's (men may stand) wherever and for whatever you may stand; and where and what you may despair ( get disheartened ) aboutis condemned by the magnanimous.
१९.२०
कामो जनस्यजह्यास्त्वं प्रमादं नैरृताऽधिप ।
उत द्विषोऽनुशोचेयुर्विप्लवे किमु बान्धवाः ॥
Karandikar Oh lord of demons, it is the peoples will that you should abandon0 (this) lapse (from duty) ; even enemies may lament during (this) calamity; what then (of) kinsmen ?

स भवान्भ्रातृवद्रक्षेद्यथावदखिलं जनम् ।
न भवान्संप्रमुह्येच्चेदाश्वस्युश्च निशाचराः ॥
Karandikar If your majesty would not be stupified and your honour may protect all the people like your brethren, according to convention, then the demons may feel reassured."
१९.२२
ततः स गतवान्कर्तुं भ्रातुरग्नि-जल-क्रियाम् ।
प्रोक्तवान्कृत-कर्तव्यं वचो रामोऽथ राक्षसम् ॥
Karandikar Thereupon, he proceeded to perform the cremation of and give water-offerings to (his) brother. Then Rama addressed (him) who had done his duty, these words, as he (Rama).
१९.२३
अम्भांसि रुक्मकुम्भेन सिञ्चन्मूर्धि समाधिमान् ।
त्वं राजा रक्षसां लङ्का मवेक्षेथा विभीषन ॥
Karandikar —sprinkled waters on his (Vibhisapa's) head with golden pitchers: "Possessed of concentration, you, Oh Vibhisana, the king of the demons, should look after (protect) Lanka.

अवसेयाश्च कार्याणि धर्मेण पुरवासिनाम् ।
अनुरागं क्रिया राजन् सदा सर्वगतं जने ॥
Karandikar May you settle the business of the citizens according to rules (Dharma) and, Oh king, may you always bestow all pervading affection on the people.
१९.३०
मन्युं वध्या भट-वध-कृतं बाल-वृद्धस्य राजन् ! शास्त्राऽभिज्ञाः सदसि सु-धियः सन्निधिं ते क्रियासुः ।
संरंसीष्ठाः सुर-मुनि-गते वर्त्मनि प्राज्य-धर्मे संभुत्सीष्ठाः सु-नय-नयनैर्विद्विषामीहितानि ।
" ॥
Karandikar "Oh King, smother the grief of the children and the aged produced by the slaying of a warrior. Let intelligent (men) well-versed in the exigencies of the sciences be by your side in the assembly; may you attain delight in (following the path abounding in righteousness ard traversed by the gods and the sages; (and), by means of the eyes in the form of good policies, may you understand well the motives (intentions) of your enemies."
