Karandikar '(When) this consequence had not (yet) come, Oh Ravana, (it) was fully foreseen by me ; on that account, you were told beneficial things; why did you not dispel (your) anger ?
१८.५
Karandikar Dependents, through avarice , consent to that which is unwholesome in future. Riches do not accrue to him who listens from them (only) to the agreeable."
१८.८
Karandikar 'In prosperity, everybody breeds pride, commits mistakes regarding ones own welfare and resorts to the unwholesome. On that account a man perishes.
Karandikar Indeed, not consulted (by you), your maternal grand father spoke to you, in counsel, about your own welfare ; at that time, On Ravana, through infatuation, you said, I shall not do (that)'.
Karandikar Why do you lament the charitable sacrificer who trampled over the heads of his enemies, who invariably satiated the manes, who was never defeated or distressed in a battle ? (Or who was injured and slain in a fight ?)
Karandikar ''You deserve to perform the post-death rites of your brother and the dissipation of the grief of these people. Oh Lord of demons, if you, who is the leader, become distraught, the burden of the kingdom, being unsustained, will collapse."
