॥ अथ १२.१६ ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच ।
१२.१६.१
अर्जुनस्य वचः श्रुत्वा भीमसेनोऽत्यमर्षणः ।
धैर्यमास्थाय तेजस्वी ज्येष्ठं भ्रातरमब्रवीत् ॥
M N Dutt Vaishampayana said After Arjuna had done the highly wrathful and energetic Bhimasena, collecting all his patience, said these words to his eldest brother:राजन् विदितधर्मोऽसि न तेऽस्त्यविदितं क्वचित्।
१२.१६.५
कथं हि राजा लोकस्य सर्वशास्त्रविशारदः ।
मोहमापद्यते दैन्याद्यथा कुपुरुषस्तथा ॥
M N Dutt How is it that you who are the king of the world, you who are the master of all branches of knowledge, allow your understanding to be clouded, with depression like a coward?
१२.१६.६
आगतिश्च गतिश्चैव लोकस्य विदिता तव ।
आयत्यां च तदात्वे च न तेऽस्त्यविदितं प्रभो ॥
M N Dutt The fair and unfair paths of the world are known to you. Everything belonging either to the future or the present is known to you, O powerfiil one.
१२.१६.७
एवं गते महाराज राज्यं प्रति जनाधिप ।
हेतुमत्र प्रवक्ष्यामि तदिहैकमनाः शृणु ॥
M N Dutt When such in the case, O king, I will point out, O king, the reasons in favour of your assuming sovereignty. Listen to me with rapt attention.
१२.१६.१८
प्रव्राजनं च नगरादजिनैश्च निवासनम् ।
महारण्यनिवासश्च न तस्य स्मर्तुमर्हसि ॥
M N Dutt Why do you not remember our expulsion from the (Kuru) city and our exile (into the forest clad in deer-skins, as also our, living in the great forests?
१२.१६.२०
यच्च ते द्रोणभीष्माभ्यां युद्धमासीदरिंदम ।
मनसैकेन ते युद्धमिदं घोरमुपस्थितम् ॥
M N Dutt A dreadful battle, O chastiser of foes, like that which you have fought with Bhishma and Drona is now before you, to be fought, (however) with your mind alone.
१२.१६.२३
तस्मादद्यैव गन्तव्यं युद्धस्य भरतर्षभ ।
एतज्जित्वा महाराज कृतकृत्यो भविष्यसि ॥
M N Dutt If you cannot win that battle what will be your condition? On the other hand, by acquiring victory in it, O monarch, you shall have attained the great end of life.
