स प्रोषिवानेत्य पुरं प्रवेक्ष्य-
न्शुश्राव घोषं न जनौघजन्यम् ।
आकर्णयामास न वेदनादान्न
चोपलेभे वणिजां पणाऽयान् ॥

Karandikar Having reached (Ayodhya), he who had stayed away for long and (was nowentering the city, did not hear any commotion emanating from the streams of people. Nor did he hear the chanting of the Vedasand he did not perceive any profit to (or mutual enquiries amongst) the traders.
